Évora
Évora is a historic city at the heart of the Alentejo, classified in its entirety as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Enclosed by ancient walls, it invites visitors to wander its narrow, cobbled streets, where whitewashed houses, azulejo panels and elegant balconies tell the story of Portugal’s art and history across centuries. Highlights include the Roman Temple of Diana, the Cathedral of Évora, the unique Bone Chapel, the University of Évora and the lively Praça do Giraldo, full of cafes and traditional atmosphere. The city combines a rich cultural heritage with a relaxed, university town vibe and is an excellent base to explore the surrounding countryside, vineyards and cork oak forests of the Alentejo.
